Lisa A. Pittarelli at ID Care

Lisa A. Pittarelli, MD, FACP, is Chief of Infectious Diseases at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. She is also medical director of the Somerset County Chest Clinic, which provides care to patients with Latent Tuberculosis Infection (LTBI), or TB disease, and is a founding member of the NJ State Tuberculosis Medical Advisory Board. She has been named one of the Best Doctors in America and is nominated by the Consumers Research Council of America in their Guide to America’s Top Physicians. She was also nominated by New Jersey Life/Health Magazine as “Doctor Who Makes a Difference” in 2011 and received the “Spirit of Somerset” Award in 2012.

Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Pittarelli worked in research at Merck on the development of a novel anti-fungal compound that is in wide use commercially today. Combining her love for science and research with her passion for helping others led her to pursue a career in medicine and an infectious disease fellowship that emphasized infections that affect immunocompromised patients, particularly those with HIV/AIDS, cancer, or who have had a transplant.

The diversity of infectious disease allows Dr. Pittarelli to act as a detective to solve complicated issues where, in many cases, the patient has been seen by several physicians prior to diagnosis. Most importantly, she wants to make a positive difference in people’s lives and be an advocate for them while navigating the medical system. She enjoys teaching and participating in training medical students, residents, as well as pharmacy students. When not involved in patient care, she enjoys painting, photography, volunteering at a local animal shelter, and attending her kids’ sporting events.
