Why I’m an infectious disease provider

“Working with infectious disease requires the individual to research and determine the cause of the patient’s illness. That process is more exclusive rather than inclusive. It can take a bit of investigative work, and that’s the part that I enjoy most about my profession.”

Approach to infectious disease care

Alexandra values the importance of communicating effectively with patients and their family members to ensure compliance and promote understanding.

More about Alexandra Allanigue, infectious disease provider

Alexandra Allanigue is board certified in infectious disease as an adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner (AGACNP-BC). She specializes in the treatment of various infectious diseases and antibiotic stewardship. Antibiotic stewardship is the application of programs and treatments that improve how providers prescribe antibiotics in healthcare settings such as infectious disease care. This stewardship focuses on only using antibiotics when appropriate by prescribing the right medication, dose and duration of use. Sound antibiotic stewardship reduces resistance to antibiotics, lowers the spread of infections and improves patient outcomes.

Passionate about infectious disease, Alexandra Allanigue enjoys the investigative aspect of diagnosing illnesses in the many infectious disease cases she encounters. She believes in tailoring treatment plans to each patient’s unique needs and educating patients on the proper use of antibiotics and the potential for resistance.
