Infectious Disease Physicians and Nurses

Donald T. Allegra, MD, FACP, FIDSA

Donald T. Allegra, MD, FACP, FIDSA, is a founding member of ID Care and has helped to build one of the largest infectious disease practices in the country. Dr. Allegra uses his position to help advance the infectious diseases field. Dr. Allegra enjoys his time with his patients, thinking through challenging cases, and coming up with solutions to help them through their health crises.

Dr. Allegra has been able to travel the world for his education and to help others. He took an infectious disease sabbatical at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, studied in Australia and New Zealand, and toured hospitals and public health facilities in Southeast Asia. A couple of times a year, Dr. Allegra volunteers in developing countries in The Caribbean, Central and South America, Africa, and Asia. He views this opportunity as a small way to give back and finds it to be challenging and tremendously rewarding. Dr. Allegra’s career has also taken him to a national level, working for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as an Epidemic Intelligence Officer, where he would investigate outbreaks of infectious disease in the U.S. and abroad. Throughout his career, Dr. Allegra has seen frightening infectious diseases, such as HIV and Hepatitis C, become epidemics and through medicine, be brought under control or in some cases, cured.
