Why I’m an infectious disease provider
“After an eye-opening clinical experience with an ID Care nurse practitioner, I wanted to do my part to prevent the overuse of antibiotics and treat patients safely and effectively.”
Approach to infectious disease care
Judith Strangio believes that the most important aspect of patient care is treating the whole patient. Addressing a patient’s emotional and spiritual needs is sometimes just as important as treating their physical needs. She understands that if a patient is physically better but still anxious about their illness or confused about a treatment plan, it is essential for her to spend time to address all related issues in order to truly provide quality care.
More about Judith Strangio, infectious disease provider
Judith completed her American Academy of Nurse Practitioners boards in 2022 to earn her NP-C. What she likes most about her work at ID Care is seeing her patients make full recoveries after antibiotic treatment. She finds it encouraging to see people improving day to day, which is not the case in some other fields of medicine.
She’s often been told by patients that she is quiet, which she considers to be her greatest strength because it enables her to give patients the chance to explain their story. Judith gives the example of how being quiet was very helpful when she asked a patient how his illness started. The patient had the chance to explain more fully than he had in the past, and he realized he had been feeling sick for much longer than he originally thought, leading to a different diagnosis and series of tests. She is proud of this effectiveness and the fact that patients say they appreciate the time she spends with them and how she sticks around to answer any questions they may have.
In her free time, Judith likes to play music – and plays four instruments!
