Why I’m an infectious disease specialist

“I became an infectious disease specialist because it allows me to combine my love for science and research with my passion for helping others. The diversity of infectious diseases allows us to almost act as detectives to solve complicated issues where, in many cases, the patient has been seen by several physicians prior to diagnosis. Most importantly, I want to make a positive difference in people’s lives and be an advocate for them while navigating the medical system.”

Approach to infectious disease care

Dr. Lisa Pittarelli’s approach to patient care focuses on a thorough, individualized process where she can work together with her patients to arrive at a mutual plan and help guide them through the complicated medical process. From her infectious disease fellowship, she developed a special interest in infections that affect immunocompromised patients, particularly those with HIV/AIDS, cancer or who have had a transplant.
