Why I’m an infectious disease provider

“I became an infectious disease specialist because at a young age, I myself was hospitalized with an infectious disease. It was at the moment, in that hospital bed, I decided I wanted to work in a field that serves others in unexpected seasons of life.”

Approach to infectious disease care

Stephanie Esposito’s approach to patient care and management is to be empathetic, open-minded and compassionate. She likes to place herself in the position of the patient and their family and approach difficult conversations from their perspective. This is important for quality care and patient experience, and she actively listens to her patients’ concerns in order to provide them comprehensive, patient-centered care.

More about Stephanie Esposito, infectious disease provider

Stephanie considers that her greatest strength is her ability to listen. She takes her time as she reviews the treatment plan with the patient to ensure that her plan is also their plan, and that everyone on the care team is on the same page.

She recognizes that infectious diseases can affect anyone, at any point in their life. That means she gets to serve a very diverse patient population and make a lasting impact on a patient’s life at the exact right time that they need her help and expertise. This is what she likes most about her work.
