Dr. Ronald G. Nahass Addresses Rising Flu Activity and Public Health Concerns

Dr. Ronald G. Nahass, president of ID Care and the Infectious Diseases Society of America, provided expert perspective as flu activity in the United States continues to surge. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports millions of influenza cases and elevated doctor visits for flu-like illness this season. According to national data, outpatient visits for flu-like illness have reached their highest level since the late 1990s, with flu cases and hospitalizations climbing sharply in recent months.

Of the recent CDC move changing the child vaccination schedule and not directly recommending the flu vaccine for children not at risk, Dr. Nahass told CBS, “Making these changes amid ongoing outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases shows a disregard for the real confusion families already face.”
